Feelings of Time
Feelings of Time is a new project I began after moving to Bodø. After a period without seeing the sunrise and with limited connection to new communities, I realized that time isn’t as rigid as we think—it can even be lived on your own schedule. Reflecting on my experiences in different countries and juggling meetings across multiple time zones, I see time as both a challenge and a reminder of life’s rhythms. Turning 30 this year has made me even more sensitive to time. Questions like “How do we perceive time? Why do we have time? What does time mean to me?” keep surfacing in my mind. In agriculture, time is crucial; but when you live alone, without the light of human connection, its importance shifts. I’ve discovered that one of time’s key roles is its social function, connecting us in ways we rarely consider. This insight inspired me to create a series of artworks expressing my relationship with time.
I identified two themes in my work—flowing and reversing—focusing on the rhythm of time in the landscape. Inspired by artists such as Jean Paul Riopelle, Sarah Tompkins, and James Whites, I began experimenting with reverse colors and reversed brightness to create contemporary abstracts based on landscape photographs. The feeling of time—its movement, its texture, and its impact on the landscape—has become the central structure of this series. Moreover, using digital photography and post-editing has allowed me to add plenty of layers that are difficult to achieve with analogue techniques. These post-editing elements are also what I think are important to make photograph art. This process gives me the opportunity to reconnect with the emotions I felt when I captured the photo, the passage of time I’ve experienced, and the moments I share with others.
